Asking Directions

Holy Living August 10th, 2008

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Men are notorious for refusing to ask for directions when driving. Sometimes it is a refusal to admit that they are even lost. Other times it is because they feel that they should be able to figure it out themselves. And even other times, it happens because of a lack of patience. If they are just able to figure it out, they will not have to spend all that time finding somewhere to stop, geting out, asking for directions, getting directions and then starting again. They do not want to take all that time when guessing correctly could save them.

This problem is not unique to men in driving. All people can be resistant to asking for directions when it comes to life. Sometimes they do not stop to ask God what they should do because they do not realize they are lost. They feel confident in their direction and knowledge. Yet their being lost is not changed by their  false evaluation. Instead we need to make an honest evaluation of whether or not we are lost. It is good for us to even ask the Lord for wisdom to make sure we are indeed on the right check.

Even if we realize we are lost, we may refuse to ask the Lord for wisdom out of stubbornness. We may feel that we can figure it out on our own. Yet that way often finds us much more loss than where we started. And the worst of all is when we just refuse to take the time to pray or ask God for wisdom because we do not have the time to ask. We wind up wasting more time feeling our way around in the dark than when we just ask the Lord for the light. We need wisdom from the Lord to correctly nagivate our lives. There is no excuse for not asking when we could make it so much easier.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

All of us need God in our lives, whether we realize it or not. God gives us everything that we need. If we are lost, we need to pray about it. We should all pray for wisdom to make Godly choices. Thank you!
