The Angels’ Desire
God's Glory, Spiritual Growth June 3rd, 2009
In 1 Peter 1, Peter is trying to explain to his fellow brethren the amazing glory of the word of God. One of the best parts of the word of God is that it tells us about salvation. It explains to us how God was able to take away our sins and establish His kingdom. God’s plan of salvation was of great interest to those who came before us. The prophets would search to see what clues they could discern from the word of God. The angels too were longing to see how God would bring salvation to mankind.
It can almost feel commonplace to talk about God’s plan of salvation. Many of us have heard it growing up all of our lives. It has been drilled into our heads so much that we do not spend a lot of time contemplating it. It is just another fact that we have catalogued away, like knowing that the sky is blue. However, God’s plan for us is amazing. Ever since man first sinned in the garden, there has always been a question by those who have known God, “How will He redeem mankind?” No one really knew the answer to that question. For God to wrap up such a complex and deep question into a single answer with the sacrifice of Jesus shows how masterful He really is.
We, having the full word of God in abundance before us, now have the oppurtunity to see and understand what God’s plan for mankind was. We now have the answers to the questions that prophets and angels asked right in front of us. All we have to do is open our Bible, and we can see the majesty of God and the redemption of man. Yet sometimes we take this for granted. We do not spend much time thinking about what all God has done for us. We often times do not even want to read it. It is considered a burden to us. Yet if we truly understood the glory of the message we recieve today, we, like the angels and prophets of old, would be longing with desire to read about all the wonderous works which God has done.
